Feast your taste buds on delicious bursts of huckleberry goodness.
Huckleberry Picking
Big Joy In Little Berries
Whether or not you've ever enjoyed these iconic Northwest berries, you are in for a tangy, sweet, and tart treat. Take in majestic views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountain ranges while you indulge in one of North Idaho's best kept secrets. Our typical huckleberry season lasts from late July until August but this can vary depending on current weather & seasonal conditions.
Sweetness worth stopping for! Eating these berries may make you forget that you came for a hike and two hours later you could find yourself only 100 feet down the trail with a full belly and a silly purple smile.
Stop at the Summer Activity Center before you head out and pick up a trail map and ask the staff about possible huckleberry picking shuttles on the weekends. Plus the folks there have a wealth of insider tips on the best trails to suit your day, and important safety information too!
*Please note that the use of rakes or tools when collecting berries is not allowed at Schweitzer. Hand picking only.
