Dining at Schweitzer: From the Fast & Casual to the Elevated & Delectable
Whether you like a sit-down dining experience with a glass of wine or you're more of a “grab a pocket burrito to eat on the chairlift” kind of person, Schweitzer is home to many dining options. Don’t let our cozy little village fool you, there are plenty of delicious finds around every corner and something for every palate (yes, even including the grown men who still order chicken tenders).
So, let’s take a little tour of some of the best spots on the mountain (hint: it's all the spots) and get those taste buds inspired for your next visit to Schweitzer.
For those first arriving and entering the Village from the Lakeview Parking Lot, you’ll stumble upon Pucci’s and Gourmandie. Pucci’s is a ski bum’s dream bar with a TV constantly playing footage of skiers and snowboarders ripping across parks and mountains. There are even some TVs that show Schweitzer videos from years past! While Pucci’s specializes in chill vibes, beer, and the best Tater Tot Nachos you’ll ever have; Gourmandie contrasts with gourmet flat breads, scratch made soup, and charcuterie boards, all with suggested wine pairings! There is also a giant display of cheese (every lactose tolerant person's dream), olives, meats, and pickled goodies. My personal favorite? The Prosciutto Goat Flatbread: a flatbread that comes with prosciutto, goat cheese, seasonal fruit, and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. And you can’t forget about all the unique, local gifts to find throughout the seating area like custom cutting boards, tea diffusers, and hand-crafted jewelry.
Rounding the corner outside, you’ll see roaring fireplaces and an inviting patio leading you to the Crow’s Bench. This beautiful space serves delicacies like a refreshing and light Thai Chicken Salad, mouthwatering Lamb Shank, and house-made Huckleberry Cheesecake. You can either sit at the bar with one of our phenomenal craft cocktail bartenders, enjoying the expansive window view looking up to the Lakeview Triple; or you can sit near the fireplace to enjoy the ambiance around you. With numerous unique cocktails (and mocktails!) and a delicious menu, there’s something to satisfy every person in your party. My go-to options? The Gingerbread Old Fashioned and the Wagyu Burger (calories don’t count after skiing). Don’t forget to call ahead and make reservations!
In the heart of the village lies Chimney Rock, a true gem named after the prominent three-sided towering mountain located just north of here. With a homey ambiance and log cabin feel, this family friendly spot is a can’t miss when visiting. The large space makes it perfect for family reunions, parties, or just a group of friends wanting to share a meal or enjoy après after a day on the slopes. Enjoy Meatloaf that will put your moms to shame, delicious salads, and unique appetizers like Ahi Poke and Birria Cigars. While enjoying your meal, be sure to check out all the beautiful local art showcasing some of the best spots at Schweitzer adorning the walls. Who knows, you could head home with a new art piece for your home! My suggestion? The Honey Citrus Steelhead paired with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. You’ll leave with a full belly and a happy heart.
A truly unforgettable spot at Schweitzer is Sky House, located at the top of the Great Escape Quad. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be a skier to get there! Scenic Foot Passenger tickets are available to be purchased at Guest Services. Sky House hosts two different dining options: the Red Hawk Café, our quick-serve portion of the restaurant, and The Nest, our sit-down eatery. At the Red Hawk Café, you can enjoy Chowder, Patty Melts or even Green Curry (patty melts make great pocket snacks by the way). Over at The Nest, sit down and indulge in Stuffed Mushrooms, Chow Mein, or even Paella while feeling like you’re on top of the world (there’s even Mini Corn Dogs for your kiddos!). On a clear day, the panoramic views looking into Canada, Washington, and Montana are breathtaking to say the least. My choice? The Philly Jack served with house potatoes.
And last, but truly not least, we find ourselves at The Outback. Located near the Stella Express 6-Pack, this iconic little building is an absolute must-visit. The genius behind The Outback is the simplicity and the heart of the crew who works there. They have classic burgers, Loaded Baked Potatoes with Chili, and a delicious breakfast item (if you know you know), all in a building covered with skis from times past. Enjoy a seat inside, reading the numerous plaques and stories that decorate the walls, or cozy up with your crew outside by the fire pit (preferably with a Bloody Mary in hand) and talk about the day's groomers, powder, jumps, trees, cliffs, and more. Make sure to take a shot ski before you go (but make sure to invite me, okay?)!
So, if you’re wondering, yes; I (and many others) have put food from at least half of these dining establishments into my pocket and enjoyed them on the chairlift! With other incredible options like coffee and treats from Mojo and Cabinet Mountain Coffee, the filling breakfast Potato Bowls and Ramen from the Lakeview Cafeteria, and of course pizza from Powder Hound, you learn the art of skiing while holding a hot beverage in hand and munching on a Danish or slice of pizza (it only take spilling your coffee one time to motivate you to perfect the art).
While Schweitzer may not be on any major food bloggers' list of top destinations, we think we have some of the best options to enjoy while spending the days on the slopes! So, we encourage you, whether you’re skiing and riding, enjoying a Hosted Snowshoe Hike, giggling while snow tubing at Hermit’s Hollow, or even lounging at Cambium Spa; take time afterwards to enjoy some of our favorite spots (and if you think it's as good as we do, leave a positive review!). Bon appetite!
