Explore Schweitzer at a different pace

Hosted snowshoe hikes are a great way to experience Schweitzer with three different styles of hikes to choose from. The best thing is that all of them include spectacular views as you trek along with our Activities staff.

  • The Hermit’s Hollow Hike from 10:00am - 12:00pm takes you through majestic old growth forests with great views from points along the trail system. Hermit's Hollow Hike is $30 per hiker and includes rentals along with any trail or lift fees.
  • The Summit Hike from 10:00am - 12:00pm includes a lift ride to the summit with views of three mountain ranges and two countries. The Summit Hike includes the option of concluding on the summit so you can remain to enjoy lunch on your own at Sky House. The Summit Hike is $30 per hiker and includes rentals along with any trail or lift fees. (Conditions may prevent a Summit Hike, in which case a Hermit's Hollow Hike will be offered)
  • The Moonlight Hike from 4:00pm - 8:00pm takes you on a walk through the forest with a fabulous sunset, then the moon to light your way back. At the end you can warm up at Chimney Rock with a cup of soup and a hot drink. The Moonlight Hike is $55 per and includes rentals, trail fees, snacks, and warm up food.
  • Private Hikes are available daily from 1:00pm - 3:00pm! These hikes require a minimum of 48 hours notice and are dependent on guide availability. These hikes are the perfect way to spend time with friends and family. Private hikes are $45 per person and can only be reserved through our Activity Center. Call (208) 255-3081 ext. 2152 to book today!

Sign your 2024/25 Winter Liability Waiver before your hike.

Snowshoe On Your Own
Our snowshoe trails are open during normal operation everyday of the season – weather permitting. Head out into Hermit’s Hollow designated snowshoe trails through the old growth forest and up to Picnic Point or out on to the Nordic Trails (be sure to stay to the side of the trials at all times and please do not walk on the cross country tracks). Trail fees are $20 for adults and $15 for juniors. Snowshoe rental packages are available for $25 or $20 for snowshoes only at the Ski & Ride Center.

Below you'll find our calendars with highlighted dates for winter 24/25. Green is Hermit's Hollow Hikes, Blue is Summit Hikes, and Teal is our Moonlight Hikes!
You can either drive all the way to Schweitzer Village or choose to take our free shuttle service. For the shuttle, you will park at the base of the mountain, the schedule can be found by clicking here and looking in the Red Barn Free Shuttle tab. If you choose to drive all the way, you should park in one of the main lots (with all the skiers). Please allow plenty of time to park and navigate your way to the village, especially on weekends and holidays as parking fills up quickly! For live parking updates, check out our Mountain Report page.
Once you arrive to the Schweitzer Village, proceed to the Activity Center to check in (located on the lower level of the Humbird Lodge). Plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your hike to check in, use the restroom, etc. For a Village Directory showing where the Humbird and Activity Center are located, click here.

Dress in layers so you can be prepared for anything! While it can get pretty cold in Schweitzer Village, we tend to heat up as we're hiking. Be sure to have snow pants, warm and supportive footwear that will keep your feet dry, eye protection (sunglasses or goggles), a warm hat you can remove, and gloves. Remember, you can always take layers off. Don't forget the sunscreen on those sunny days!
Our hosted hikes invite all ability levels and are more about going at a pace which allows us to take in the environment. However, no matter our pace, snowshoe hikes are physically demanding and participants tend to be fairly tires at the end. Luckily, we return to warm beverages and snacks to refuel!
Yes, you can choose to remain on the summit to enjoy lunch at the Sky House. You will simply need to give your equipment over to your host to return on your behalf.
