Sandpoint, ID – “A lot of people may not be aware of this, but all the great soil for grape growing in the Pacific Northwest is tied to North Idaho,” says Mary Weber-Quinn, Events and Activities Director for Schweitzer Mountain Resort. According to Weber-Quinn, when the ice age floods broke through the ice damns in Clark Fork millions of years ago, nutrient rich sediment rushed west and created ideal soil for growing grapes. “Now, here we are centuries later, able to enjoy wine from all over the Pacific Northwest region, right back where it all started, during Schweitzer’s Northwest Winefest.”

July 16 & 17, the resort will be celebrating this fusion of ice age history and modern viticulture during the 2nd annual Northwest Winefest. “We had such an amazing turn out last year, that we felt one day just wasn’t enough,” continues Weber-Quinn. “We’ll have over 20 different wineries with over 80 different wines to sample. We’re sure you’ll find a favorite!”

Northwest Winefest runs from 11-7pm on Saturday and from 11-5pm on Sunday with wine tastings and souvenir glassware available for purchase at the main sales tent. Schweitzer has also lined up an impressive list of free live music to create a festive atmosphere during the event including Brenden McCoy, The Nicole Lewis Band, and Norman Baker & The Backroads on Saturday then Brown Salmon Truck and the Northwest’s hottest Latin band, Milonga, on Sunday.

Schweitzer will also have a craft beer tent, BBQ, arts & crafts vendors and activities for the whole family. “Saturday morning, people can take part in the Schweitzer Mountain Trail Run or on Sunday, participate in the morning cross-country bike race,” adds Weber-Quinn. “Then, either day, hang out and relax on the lawn with some amazing wine and incredible music. Should be a fantastic weekend for everyone!”

Schweitzer’s daily summer activities will be available during Northwest Winefest including the zip line, Monkey Motion Air Jumper, climbing wall and chairlift rides with 20% discounted lift tickets available during the weekend.
