Schweitzer Closes Out Record Year with 434" of Snowfall For the Season
Resort Operated for 141 Days in 2017/18
Sandpoint, ID (April 17, 2018) – Thanks to consistent snowfall starting in November and continuing through the final weekend, 2017/18 was the snowiest winter on record for Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Schweitzer saw over 434” of snowfall throughout the season and wrapped up the winter with over 78” still in the base area and 152” at the summit. “When the snow started to arrive back in November, we were hoping it was a sign of good things to come,” says Schweitzer’s Marketing Manager, Dig Chrismer. “I don’t think any of us quite expected to see as much snowfall as we did in the end. We were really fortunate to have such quality snow throughout the season.”
The ski season was slow to start in other areas of the country which had positive ramifications for Schweitzer with the resort setting a record of over 255K skier visits this season. “We saw an increase in the number of visitors from all over the US thanks to our snowpack and reciprocal pass programs like the Powder Alliance. Visitors who were snow starved at home were able to visit Schweitzer and experience all that this great mountain has to offer.”
Schweitzer began the season on November 18, 2017 and operated for 141 days. “We average about 130 days a season so reaching 141 with amazing conditions still on the mountain was another fantastic milestone for us. It’s great that our passholders, friends and fans were able to enjoy the mountain as much as they did this year. One best day after another - it really was beyond all expectations.”
Schweitzer now begins the transition to a full summer season of scenic chairlift rides, lift served mountain biking, hiking, and village activities. Summer operations start on June 22, 2018, weather permitting, with four major summer events planned – 7B Sunday on June 24, Northwest WineFEST on July 21 & 22, Huckleberry Color Fun Run on August 5 and Schweitzer’s most popular summer event, Fall Fest, August 31 – Sept 3, 2018.
